S.Minimum Wage Calculation

Minimum Wage Calculation

Minimum wage calculation is completed as follows:

Step

Action

1

Determine the participantís weekly work participation requirement (32 or 35 hours) for the Activity Participation Month.

2

Estimate the number of hours of employment or other approved WTW activity that the participant is expected to complete per week, if any, for the Activity Participation Month.

3

Determine the number of unmet hours of participation for the Activity Participation Month by subtracting the estimated weekly number of employment or other approved WTW activity hours from the total weekly number of participation hours required (32 or 35 from Step 1).

4

Determine the actual Cash Grant authorized for the Grant Calculation Month (The amount including underpayments and supplemental payments issued on or before the 10th day of the month and after recoupment of penalties and overpayment adjustments).

5

Determine the actual Food Stamp allotment authorized for the Grant/Calculation Month (The amount after over-issuance adjustments and including any under-issuances paid on or before the 10th of the month).

Note: To determine the prorated amount of Food Stamps for mixed household, take the total household Food Stamp allotment and divide it by the number of recipients in the household equal to the dollar amount received by each person.Multiply this amount by the number of CalWORKs Cash Aid recipients in the household.

6

Determine the total benefits paid for the Grant/Calculation Month by adding the Actual Cash Grant (Step 4) and the Actual Food Stamp allotment (Step 5).

Cash Grant + Food Stamp Allotment = Total Benefits

7

Divide the Total Benefits (Step 6) for the Grant/Calculation Month by the State Minimum Wage.

Total Benefits / State Minimum Wage = Monthly Hours

Note: The current State Minimum Wage is $8.00.The minimum wage is subject to periodic adjustments.

8

Convert the monthly hours (Step 7) to Weekly Allowable WEX/CSR Participation Hours by dividing the Monthly Hours by 4.33 (the average number of weeks in a month).

Monthly Hours / 4.33 = Weekly Allowable WEX/CSR Participation Hours

9

Complete these steps each month as participant continues in WEX/CSR activity.
